New Tea

Steve brought me home a new kind of tea to try a few weeks ago.  It got pushed out of sight and I kind of forgot about it until this morning.  This tea, Runa, says that it has more antioxidants than yerba mate and that it will provide sustained, un-jittery energy.  Sweet, sign me up!  From their website:

“Perhaps the most prized feature of guayusa is the distinctively smooth, clean, and round taste that it gives when brewed. There are no tannins in the guayusa leaf, so it therefore lacks the astringent or bitter taste sometimes associated with green or black teas.”

I let my tea steep for almost 10 minutes and it never got bitter.  The taste reminds me a lot of a regular black tea, but much less bitter and it has a slight floral finish.  It is definitely a smooth and mellow tea.  I’ll have to get back to you in it’s effects on my energy level.  I need all the energy I can get these days.  You’d be amazed how tiring it is to sit on your ass all day.  Re-learning how to walk is also a pretty exhausting.  I wore two shoes on Tuesday night to go somewhere, but that’s a story for another time!

Try this tea, it’s delightful!  It’s a good alternative to yerba mate if you can’t get past the smoky flavor of mate.
